Ear wax Removal Service

Helping you hear better

Earwax is entirely natural and is produced by your ears in order to protect them from infections. Microsuction earwax removal is a safe, efficient and comfortable method of wax removal. No liquids are used during the procedure meaning the process is clean, and non-invasive. It also allows your Audiologist to clearly see inside your ear throughout, making it an exceptionally safe procedure. It’s quick and painless, often taking no more than a few minutes.

The Ear Examination

What is Ear Wax?

It comes as a surprise to many that ear wax is good for the health of your ears. It plays a vital role in preventing infection and removing debris from the ear canal. Ear wax is produced naturally by glands within your ear canal and varies in colour from yellow through to dark brown. An excessive build-up of ear wax can cause a variety of complications.

What causes ear wax to build up?

Although production of wax is natural some people produce more than others, and some are more prone to a build up over time. However, there are several factors which contribute to the differences between people including having hairy, narrow or S-shaped ear canals. The use of cotton buds, ear plugs, earphones and hearing devices can also encourage ear wax to build up.

Those who are prone to wax build up and those that use hearing aids should get their ears checked annually.

What are the symptoms of ear wax build up?

Excessive ear wax build up can cause a variety of symptoms including:

  • Ears feeling itchy
  • Earache
  • Tinnitus - a ringing sensation in the ear
  • Loss of hearing
  • Infection

Ear wax build up in hearing aid users can have additional negative impacts including:

  • By causing damage to the hearing aid
  • By increasing the frequency your hearing device needs cleaning
  • By causing the hearing aid to emit a whistling noise
  • By causing discomfort when wearing your hearing aid

What can be done?
